Ingredients and Making Method of Honey Fruits (a Beijing Snack)

Ingredients of Honey Fruits
1000g flour


8 eggs


500ml milk


1000ml oil


200g white sugar


20g Chinese prickly ash


300g honey



Steps to Make Honey Fruits


Step 1: Boil Chinese prickly ash in water, filter out the residue and set aside. Boil the milk and let it cool to lukewarm.


Step 2: Divide the flour into two parts. Knead one part with the lukewarm milk, add 100g of oil and 4 eggs, and knead well and set aside. Knead the other part with the Chinese prickly ash water, add honey, 100g of oil and 4 eggs, knead well and set aside. Let it rest for 10 minutes.


Step 3: Take a piece of dough from each part and roll them into two flat cakes, then stack them together.


Step 4: Roll up from one end tightly into a cylindrical shape.

Step 6: Cut into slices.


Step 7: Heat oil in a pan.


Step 8: Put the slices into the pan when the oil is hot and bubbling.


Step 9: You can also cut the stacked dough slices into long strips of uniform size, make a cut in the middle, and pull out from the middle. There are many patterns. It’s my personal preference!


Step 10: Fry until golden brown, then take them out of the pan. Pour the prepared honey water (honey and water in a ratio of 1:10) over them while they are still hot.


Step 11: Sprinkle with white sugar. It will be crispier when cooled.
